Upgrade Patch 5a Overview
This patch will only work on PCs that have a registered copy of Bird Tracker for Windows already installed. Registered users of Bird Tracker for Windows should download the patch to their PC and then double-click the BTupg5a.exe file. Follow the instructions on the set-up installation screens and be sure to install the patch to your current Bird Tracker application folder; this folder should come up by default during the set-up process. When done, you are ready to continue maintaining your records.
PLEASE NOTE: Upgrade Patch 5a does a significant change to the program database. There will be a several minute delay for Bird Tracker to fully open after installing the Upgrade Patch in order for the program to make the necessary database changes. Follow-on openings of the program should occur without a significant delay.
To add a new species provided with Upgrade 5, go to the Species Screen, click the Open Defaults Selection Menu button, click the desired species on the dialog box, then click the OK button. You are now ready to use the new species.
Upgrade patch 5a includes all previous upgrade patches (Upgrade Patch 1 , Upgrade Patch 2a, Upgrade Patch 3, and Upgrade Patch 4) plus provides improvements in the following areas:
Bird Tracker is now fully network ready. The reliability of your data will be maintained in a multi-user environment. Cabin Software only requires you to purchase one licensed copy of Bird Tracker if using in a network environment at home or place of business. This change mainly includes flags to notify you if someone else is working with a record you currently have displayed. A networking topic has been added to the help file explaining how Bird Tracker will operate in a networked environment along with installation instructions.
Bird Tracker has undergone a major overhaul to operate more efficiently with significantly large databases. So whether you are working a couple of hundred or a couple of million records, Bird Tracker will continue to perform. Part of this overhaul includes replacement of many of the drop down boxes with quicker loading drop down box. On many of the screens, we have added multicolumn drop down boxes to help you more quickly locate a record of interest. These multi-column drop down boxes can be sorted by simply clicking the column caption in the light blue box. In the example below, the drop down box will initially be ordered by Unique ID. If you double-click the Band Number caption the listing will appear in order of Band Number. This also applies to Cage Number and Phenotype.
A Calendar Screen has been added to the program for you to enter you daily events. This calendar is integrated with the Task screen and will show all tasks scheduled for accomplishment on the selected day.

All Grid Views now remember their last column selection and sizing.
The Genetics Prediction screen has been modified to allow entry of Unique ID or Band Number. Simply type in the Unique ID or Band Number and a button will appear for you to click when ready to perform the search and load. We have also replaced the small grid with a larger customizable pop-up grid for calling up flock records.

E-mail buttons have been added to various screens so that you can rapidly call up your e-mail application with the address line already loaded. Additionally, we have increase the maximum entry length of an e-mail address from 30 characters to 60 characters.
Web site addresses listed on the Contact Screens are now linked to Internet Explorer.
| An expanded search pop-up screen has been added to the Breeding Records screen to help find and load a mate. | |
Added an Incubate Date text box at the bottom of the Breeding Records screen that will establish the starting period for the incubation period of the laid eggs. Simply click the "X" button to add Today's date.

A New Round button has been added to the Breeding Records screen. If you continue to breed the same pair, just click the New Round button and they are ready to go again. You have several options for disposition of the previous breeding round as shown below.

Added a button that will allow you to import offspring or flock record information onto the Invoice screen and thus display on invoice reports. If you keep the Item ID as the bird's Unique ID the program will also update their records with the sale information.

You can now schedule automatic backups of your database and files.

You now have the option of four different Hatch Certificates and they can include a photo of the bird. You can also add your aviary information to appear at the bottom of the Hatch Certificate.

The order in which the Parblue and Blue mutation appear on the Species screen has been corrected on all default files to show the most dominant mutation first for all species effected.
Added additional detail to some of the captions on the Add Traits screen.
Added some enhancements to make print preview screens come up quicker if a large number of records have been selected.
| Fixed the Archive Expenditure Summary report to show the currency symbol for values on the right column. | |
| Fixed problems associated with Check Relationship button on the Breeding Screen. If in the process of adding a new record the Check Relationship button is selected, the program would over-write the first record in the active database with the new information rather than adding a new record. This is not a problem if the Check Relationship button is clicked when not adding a record. Additionally, the Check Relationship function would add some extra erroneous information to the message in the case of breeding an offspring to a parent when the parent has no ancestry records. | |
| Fixed the problem associated with the Breeding Screen not being able to properly delete the displayed record. | |
Fixed the problem associated with the Flock Records Screen not displaying all previous breedings when the archive button is selected. This only occurs when the name or band number is left blank.
As always, we appreciate the comments and feedback from our customers and look forward to additional thoughts that will expand the abilities of Bird Tracker.
